20 arrested with 960 cans of petrol in Sokoto



Twenty suspects have been arrested in Sokoto with over 960 jerry cans of petrol being smuggled to Niger Republic.
Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Sokoto State command which made the arrests, said it also seized four vehicles in connection with the seizures of the petroleum products.

NSCDC Commandant in the state, Adamu Soja disclosed this yesterday in a statement made available to journalists.
He said the seizures were recorded in Illela, Gada,
Tangaza, Sabon-Birni and Gudu local government areas of the state  by the anti-vandalism unit of the command.

According to him, the seized vehicles had been handed over to the Intelligence and Investigation Department of the command for possible prosecution.

He stressed commitment of the officers and men of the command to stamp out rampant cases of diversion of petroleum and other related products across the Nigerian borders.

In another development, Soja said the command arrested some suspects with various cases of vandalism of PHCN, Telecommunications cables and other related items in Wamakko, Binji, Sokoto north and Sokoto south local governments of the state.

Soja listed exhibits recovered to include a transformer, armoured cables, motorcycles and locally-built vespas used by the vandals.
